My website pulled a Houdini

In November, I asked GoDaddy for help acquiring a new, easier domain. After some back and forth with their website broker, I gave him my number. It was nothing big since this is just a hobby site. He came back with the suggestion that I offer at least 3500 dollars for a very dead website. I declined. He pushed. I declined again.

Within 24 hours, Jered went to show my website to a friend and it was gone. Just gone.

I logged into GoDaddy and tore through my account looking for anything. I found my blogs, but nothing else, and the blogs were not even accessible without the rest of the site. After hours on chat with customer service, GoDaddy told me that my website no longer existed. Then they went further and told me it never existed at all. Apparently the hours I spent uploading photos to their extremely non user friendly platform were just something I imagined.

There was nothing they could do, because according to them, there was never anything there in the first place. Someone had gone in and manually deleted everything, including all of the backups.

Seems convenient.

So while I rebuild everything from scratch with a new website builder, one that will hopefully not try to convince me I dreamed the whole thing, please be patient with the barebones setup. I promise it will get better. I just need a little time to put all the pieces back together.

Welcome to our adventure

Meet the Stecks

Hi there, and welcome to our little corner of the internet! We’re the Steck family: Jered, Kiersten, Ethan, and Ainsley; and we’ve just taken the biggest leap of our lives.

We packed everything we own into storage, put our house up for sale (yep, it’s still on the market!), and downsized our entire lives into one backpack and one roller bag each. Why? Because we believe life is too short to stay in one place.

For the next year, we’re living without a set destination, following our curiosity across the globe. One country, one culture, and one experience at a time. We’re trading routines for adventure, comfort for curiosity, and “someday” for right now.

This blog is our digital postcard, a place to share the highs, the lows, the lessons, and the beautiful chaos of family travel without a fixed plan. Whether you’re dreaming of your own journey or just along for the ride, we’re so glad you’re here.

Let’s see where this road leads! 🌍✈️
